What is this scan?
A Doppler scan is a special ultrasound that evaluates blood flow through arteries and veins, in the limbs, neck, abdomen or in pregnancy.
When is it performed?
Advised when there is suspicion of clots, varicose veins, narrowed arteries, carotid disease, or in high-risk pregnancies for fetal well-being.
Preparation
- Limb / carotid Doppler — no preparation needed.
- Abdominal Doppler — 6 hours of fasting; only sips of water allowed.
- Obstetric Doppler — no preparation needed.
- Bring previous reports and prescriptions.
