Frequently Asked Questions
What is a TVS scan?
A transvaginal scan (TVS) uses a thin, lubricated ultrasound probe placed gently in the vagina to give detailed images of the uterus, ovaries and early pregnancy.
Is a TVS scan painful?
No. It may feel slightly uncomfortable but is not painful. The probe is single-patient covered and well lubricated.
Do I need a full bladder for TVS?
No. An empty bladder is needed for a TVS scan.
Is TVS safe in early pregnancy?
Yes. TVS is safe and gives clearer images of an early pregnancy than an abdominal scan.
